This book introduces the floating nuclear power plants technology and it contains 8 chapters. Chapter 1 first analyses the energy demand in the progress of marine resources development. Then, comparison of different offshore energy supply methods is conducted. And the market application prospects of floating nuclear power plants (FNPPs) is discussed. Chapter 2 introduces the characteristics of marine environment and effects of the marine environment on FNPPs. The technical challenges in the R&D of FNPPs is discussed as compared to the land-based nuclear power plants technology. Chapter 3 introduces the typical design of Floating nuclear power plants. Main features of the existing FNPP designs in various countries, including Russia, China, U.S., France, South Korea, are detailed discussed. Chapter 4 analyses the design requirements of platform of FNPPs. The selection of the platform type, the design of the platform structure, and the overall safety design are mainly discussed. Chapter 5 analyses the design requirements of reactor core and coolant system in FNPPs. Typical floating nuclear reactor core and coolant system designs are introduced. Effects of ship motions on the thermal hydraulic characteristics of the reactor core and coolant system are discussed. Technically guidelines for the design of the reactor core and coolant system are provided. Chapter 6 mainly analyses the applicability of the existing active safety technology of the land-based nuclear power plants in the marine environment, the research progress of marine passive safety technology and its application. Chapter 7 introduces the accident safety analysis methods of FNPPs. The design basis accident classification and safety analysis requirements are discussed. The research progress of severe accident management strategies and radiation protection of FNPPs are introduced. Chapter 8 introduces the operation and maintenance of the FNPPs, refueling, decommissioning, etc.
