A uniform geometrical theory of diffraction (UTD) solution to the canonical problem of diffraction by a wedge with surface impedance faces, illuminated by a line source, is obtained in a rigorous fashion by using a plane wave spectrum formulation. The solution for the diffracted field presented is expressed as a product of a closed-form expression multiplied by a factor which involves calculations of two Maliuzhinets functions; it possesses a desirable apparent symmetry with respect to the locations of the source and the observation point. Further contributions to the scattered field that arise from the surface wave excitation mechanism are also obtained.
