Abstract A very large amount of genes is involved in each different cellular process, but only a few of them are supposed to play a central role. The leader gene approach is a data mining method, which may allow the identification of genes with potential highest importance in a given cellular process. We plan to use this method to shed new lights on molecular mechanisms of some complex oral diseases.
