An unpublished manuscript by Ippolito Rosellini in the Biblioteca Universitaria of Pisa puts again in discussion the proposed reduction of the ahmoside queens Meritamun to a single one, the wife of Amenhotep I. A large fragment from a wooden coffin, inscribed for a Queen, King’s Daughter, King’s sister and also God’s Wife Ahmes-Meritamun, was copied by Rosellini and Wilkinson in 1828-29. This new evidence makes clear that the Queen Ahmes-Meritamun was not the Queen Meritamun, wife of Amenhotep I, whose tomb DB 358 was found and published by Winlock in 1932, but an older royal member of the Ahmoside family, probably a daughter of Seqenenre Tao II. It is here suggested that she could possibly be the principal wife of Kamosis, and, moreover, that DB 358 was originally excavated for her burial, before being re-used for the wife of Amenhotep I.
