The author's reconstruction and interpretation of the Festus' lemma on the "vici" are compared with E. Todisco's proposals to reaffirm that according to Festus the Roman model of rural settlement was grounded on "pagi", i.e. on isolated houses, whereas the Italic one was grounded on "vici", i.e. on nucleated villages.
