Plotinus proves to be an acute critic of Aristotle's objections against the theory of Forms. The Plotinian reassessment of Plato's theory of Forms implies that the intelligible world is heterogeneous with respect to the visible world. This paves the way to a highly counter-intuitive presentation of the intelligible realm, and prtima facie makes it impossible to stick to the Platonic idea that the visible world is an image of the intelligible realm. The essay addresses this aporia.

Abstract

Plotinus proves to be an acute critic of Aristotle's objections against the theory of Forms. The Plotinian reassessment of Plato's theory of Forms implies that the intelligible world is heterogeneous with respect to the visible world. This paves the way to a highly counter-intuitive presentation of the intelligible realm, and prtima facie makes it impossible to stick to the Platonic idea that the visible world is an image of the intelligible realm. The essay addresses this aporia.
