In the era of genomic medicine, the family health history is still the first and inexpensive tool within the reach of anyone to effectively assess the risk for a variety of disorders, such as cardiovascular disease and cancer. The strong familial aggregation of cardiovascular disease presumably arises as a result of the interactions of multiple biological, environmental, psychosocial, behavioural, and lifestyle factors whose relative contribution to the subsequent cardiovascular morbidity and mortality is not well established. Clusters of inflammatory factors, markers of oxidation, and atherosclerotic imaging abnormalities were associated with a positive parental history of premature coronary artery disease. In turn, oxidative stress, which has been strongly linked to the initiation and progression of both diabetes and cardiovascular disease, also shows familial patterns of inheritance. The objective of this review is to provide a comprehensive overview of accumulating evidence that suggests a relationship between oxidative stress and family history of CVD.

Abstract
The objective of this review is to provide a comprehensive overview of accumulating evidence that suggests a relationship between oxidative stress and family history of CVD.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
