While innovation is called upon as an answer to the global slump, there isn’t a shared idea about “what innovation and how to be innovative”, especially when it refers to small firms. This paper set the findings of the early stage of a research aimed at highlighting the role of inter-organizational processes supporting innovation and reflecting upon the features that make those processes successful when having cross-sectional nature and involving small-sized firms. The object of the research, cognitive and exploratory in purposes, is the start up process of a cross-sectional cooperative network aimed at product/service innovation. Theoretical background includes contributions on open innovation and learning by interacting processes, directly referred to SMEs.

Abstract
While innovation is called upon as an answer to the global slump, there isn’t a shared idea about “what innovation and how to be innovative”, especially when it refers to small firms. This paper set the findings of the early stage of a research aimed at highlighting the role of inter-organizational processes supporting innovation and reflecting upon the features that make those processes successful when having cross-sectional nature and involving small-sized firms. The object of the research, cognitive and exploratory in purposes, is the start up process of a cross-sectional cooperative network aimed at product/service innovation. Theoretical background includes contributions on open innovation and learning by interacting processes, directly referred to SMEs.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
