Abstract

In linguistics, comics are interesting not only by themselves but also for methodological purposes, since they are a singular mix of text and images and the rules of this mix were created spontaneously by creators and readers in the first half of the 20th century. The paper illustrates the expressive features of some popular Italian comics from the point of view of basic writing features: from lettering to orthography and to the choice of interjections. The state of the studies in this field does not allow complete descriptions, but a preliminary sketch about the linguistic practices of Italian comics is given as a working hypothesis.
