Experimental ingestion of Solanum nigrum nerries was carried out to test the real sedative-narcotic effect of the fruits in the pheasant. A total of pheasants were randomly assigned to 4 experimental thesis: control (0) and 10,20, 40 beries per pheasant. Tonic immobility, escape distance, rectal temperature and respiratiry frequency were measured at 0,1h,3h, 5h,10h and 24h from the experimental ingestion. Pupil enlargement was estimated at 24h from the experimental ingestion. In treated groups the results showed: a dose-dependent reduction of the escape distance (1-3hours from the ingestion), a dose-dependent reduction of the body temperature and a tendency to the increase of the respiratory rhythm, a significative pupil enlargment with the ingestion of berries(pheasant compared to controls.
