The use of diets, with an optimum iodine content if of fundamental importance either to obtain the best performance of rabbits and to obtain meats for human nutrition with a balanced iodine content. Plasma thyroid hormone levels were monitored in 20 rabbit does during pregnancy and in their litters the day of the delivery to study the nutrient requirement of rabbits under the iodine requirement point of view. Four experimental diets were used: no iodine added to the diet (control) and mg 75 (group1), mg 150 (group 2) and mg 300 (group 3) of iodine added to 100 kg of the control pellet. TT3 and TT4 plasma levels were monitored at mating, weekly during pregnancy and in the does and litters after delivery. Results showed that the experimental diets did not influence the trend of thyroid hormones during the pregnancy even if lower values were observed at mating with the highest iodine integrated diet.
