Abstract

We study, from a phenomenological point of view, the radiated emission from systems interested by electrical discharges. Through an experimental analysis conducted on purposely-prepared setups, we characterize the main electrical quantities. On the basis of such results, we present a new modeling approach to simulate the electromagnetic radiation. The electromagnetic problem has been divided into two sub-problems: the first one concerning the determination of integral electrical quantities, e.g. current and voltage transients in the lumped parameter circuit, and the second one dealing with the characterization of the radiated field. An analytical technique is adopted to predict emission from the investigated setup, while the possibility to extend this modeling procedure to more complex systems is discussed. Keywords: Electrical discharges, radiated emission, transient measurements, modeling.
