Abstract

The Mt.Penna/Casanova Complex (Early Campanian) outcropping between the Trebbia and Aveto Valleys is characterized by a thick sequence consisting of ophiolitic sandstones, mono- and polymict breccias and slide blocks. This sequence shows stratigraphic transition to the Ottone/S.Stefano Helminthoid Flysch (Early Campanian-?Maastrichtian). The stratigraphy and the overall geometry recognized in the Mt.Penna/Casanova Complex point to the presence of levels mainly consisting of slide blocks and related breccias. This stratigraphic frame can be connected with tectonics active both in the source and in the basin-area of the Mt.Penna/Casanova Complex.
