The study aim was to evaluate the effect on globe position and respiration of three dosages of IV rocuronium. Twenty-eight dogs of various breeds, aged 1 (0.4– 10 years) [median (range)], anaesthetized for ophthalmic procedures were enrolled. Dogs were divided into 4 groups of 7 animals (G1–G4). G1, G2, G3 received 0.075 mg kg)1, 0.05 mg kg)1, 0.03 mg kg)1 of IV rocuronium, respectively; G4 (control group) received IV 0.9% NaCl. Dogs were anaesthetized with dexmedetomidine (2.5 lg kg)1), methadone (0.1 mg kg)1), propofol (2 mg kg)1) and isoflurane. Neuromuscular function was assessed with acceleromyography using train of four (ToF) stimulation of the ulnar nerve. Throughout anaesthesia ECG, HR, SAP, DAP, MAP, fR, PE¢CO2, FE¢ISO andV . T were monitored. Alteration in globe position was recorded. No significant differences were found between groups concerning HR, fR, PE¢CO2, FE¢ISO and _V T. Four ToF twitches were seen at all times in all groups. Globe position results are reported in Table 1. All doses of rocuronium produced globe centralization with minimal respiratory effects. The 0.03 mg kg)1 dose could only be useful for very short ophthalmic procedures or prior to IV infusions due to its short duration of effect.
