Analisi della struttura genetica dei principali allevamenti Italiani di cani di razza Basset Hound

The aim of the present study was to determine the genetic structure of the Basset Hound dog breed as it emerged from the data of the main Italian breeding farms. Genealogical data of 79 animals were collected from six farms. The total number of different animals was 413, distributed through 10 generations with a mean inbreeding value not higher than 4.74%, whereas the average relatedness value, evaluated for animals with at least four traced generations, was about 2%. Considering all 413 subjects, the mean inbreeding value was 0.81%, and the estimated populations effective size (Ne) was 61.73; 43 animals were inbred, with a mean inbreeding value of 7.83%. On the other hand, the inbreeding coefficient of the 79 subjects from the six breeding farms was 1.76% (27 animals were inbred), and the average relatedness value was 3.32%.
