The University of Pisa and the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna of Pisa, carried out an experimental trial aiming to characterize the performances of an SRF harvesting machines. In the first stages of the research some problems related to the feeding system of the operative machine emerged. The machine was modified by the University of Pisa in collaboration with the producing firm. The modified SRF harvesting machine was tested on two poplar plantation characterized by different coppicing frequencies (2 years and 4 years). The introduced changes solved the feeding problems. The results obtained showed that the best operative and energetic performances of the machines were in the 4 years coppiced poplar.
