Mechanical changes of left ventricle (LV) during reversible attacks of myocardial ischemia at rest in man were investigated by means of standard time-motion echocardiography which permits a beat by beat analysis. However this technique requires handling huge amounts of data, when long-lasting phenomena are considered. To analyze the trends of events occurring during transient ischemic attacks, storage, display and statistical evaluation of the data, an original approach was used which requires a digitizer and a minicomputer. This approach provides trends of values of wall thickness, percentage systolic thickening, wall motion and excursion, LV dimension, percentage fractional shortening and LV hemodynamics.
