Archaeological research at Punta della Mortola (Villa Hanbury Gardens, Imperia): 1985 and 1987 campaigns. The lithic industry from Punta della Mortola was collected since 1967 along the south-westernmost edge of the Hanbury gardens, not far from the sea-shore. It is mainly composed of hypermicrolithic, isoscele triangles, notched artefacts and microburins characteristic of the Preboreal climatic period. According to the excavator, the site produced a well preserved Mesolithic shallow «hut-foundation». The excavations resumed by the Authors gave no traces of the above-mentioned structure. On the contrary they should indicate that the flint assemblage was carried to the site occasionally, most probably during the fortification of the cape before the beginning of the Second World War.
