About some Italian rainfall series. Doubts, unsolved questions and some general considerations – In this paper the author discusses various problems emerged from the analysis of the rainfall data series of the Collegio Romano (Rome) and of other Italian stations. The average (1942-2012) annual rainfall in the Collegio Romano is lower by more than 15% if compared to that of all other stations in the area of Rome. We can find a similar situation in the historic centre of Bologna, where the two stations of the Servizio Idrografico show a difference of 100 mm in the average annual total over the period 1935-1978. It was also noted that recent research on the temporal variations of the precipitation intensity in Italy presents very doubtful results that are probably due to the presence of significant errors in the examined series.
