This study is part of a screening project aimed at the evaluation of the subject’s dose in Computed Axial Tomography. An heterogeneous chest pediatric phantom was realized to simulate lungs and bones and optimize the tomography acquisition protocols, thus reducing the absorbed dose and maintaining high diagnostic image quality. The phantom materials were selected so as to have equivalent Hounsfield units with respect to the anatomical components to simulate: balsa wood for lungs and gypsum for bone. Thermoluminescent detectors were inserted in the phantom and used for interface dose measurements. A comparison between in phantom and in vivo measured dose distribution is reported.
