Abstract

The allusion to the Athenian Festival of Panathenaia in the third stasimon of Euripides’ Heraclidae is used by the chorus as a sort of ‘remind’ addressed to the goddess in order to obtain her help and protection. In this article the attention is focussed both on the ways an Athenian festival can be evoked in a tragedy, soliciting the ritual competence of the public, and on the role of the festival itself as a kind of offer to the goddess .
