The aim of this paper is to present an empirically derived framework shedding light on the relationships between the implementation of agile software development methods and their effects on the organizational ability to innovate and to synthetize relevant organizational knowledge. Given the limited prior knowledge about the effects of agile adoption on teams’ learning and innovation capabilities, as well as the complexity of the topic, an abductive approach was adopted. Within four organizations belonging to the same large international telecommunication company, 44 semi-structured interviews were performed with organizational members. Moreover, 121 free comments from a global survey launched in the same organization during the same period as the interviews. A comprehensive framework based on a thematic analysis of the data collected is developed and tentative propositions referring to the identified concepts are suggested as a starting point for future research development.
