The article discusses six passages of Aeschylus’ Agamemnon, reconsidering some neglected variants (vv. 310-311, 1093-4), and pointing out the necessity of a better evaluation of the paradosis in verses that have been often considered definitively emended (vv. 1309, 1385-7, 1526-7). About vv. 1196-7, the author argues that the widely accepted interpretation of ἐκμαρτύρησον and προυμόσας as terms borrowed from the technical language of the Attic process is wrong, and that it should not be taken as the starting point for the emendation of the passage.

Abstract

The article discusses six passages of Aeschylus’ Agamemnon, reconsidering some neglected variants (vv. 310-311, 1093-4), and pointing out the necessity of a better evaluation of the paradosis in verses that have been often considered definitively emended (vv. 1309, 1385-7, 1526-7). About vv. 1196-7, the author argues that the widely accepted interpretation of ἐκμαρτύρησον and προυμόσας as terms borrowed from the technical language of the Attic process is wrong, and that it should not be taken as the starting point for the emendation of the passage.
