The ivory tower can be considered as the «métaphore obsedante» (Mauron) which characterises all of Brancati’s works; through this topic we can study the author’s relationship with the Italian historical and social context between 1927 and 1955, and also with two of his most important literary models: Baudelaire and the loved and hated d’Annunzio.
La torre d’avorio può essere considerata la «metafora ossessiva» (Mauron) che attraversa le opere di Brancati; nelle sue occorrenze, essa permette di indagare l’evoluzione del rapporto dell’autore con la realtà storica e sociale dell’Italia (1927-1955), nonché la complessa dialettica che lega lo scrittore di Pachino ad alcuni dei suoi modelli letterari, primi fra tutti Baudelaire e l’odiosamato d’Annunzio.
