Social interaction is defined as the process by which people act and react in relation to each other. One fundamental aspect for the process of social interaction is that the individuals involved understand each other’s underlying intentions and meanings. The human mind and the personal self can only develop through meaningful interaction with others. Over time, the individuals and groups interacting in a social system create concepts and mental representations of each other’s action, and these concepts become crucial as they determine expectations and the reciprocal roles played by the actors. Knowledge and people’s conceptions of what reality is can become embedded in society, creating what is called the social construction of reality.

Abstract

Social interaction is defined as the process by which people act and react in relation to each other. One fundamental aspect for the process of social interaction is that the individuals involved understand each other’s underlying intentions and meanings. The human mind and the personal self can only develop through meaningful interaction with others. Over time, the individuals and groups interacting in a social system create concepts and mental representations of each other’s action, and these concepts become crucial as they determine expectations and the reciprocal roles played by the actors. Knowledge and people’s conceptions of what reality is can become embedded in society, creating what is called the social construction of reality.
