High-pressure meta-ophiolite artefacts spread across Europe during the Neolithic, but the exact provenance of their raw material is an open question yet. In this work we give a preliminary, although detailed petrological and geochemical data of three possible sources of HP meta-ophiolitic stone artefacts. During fieldwork we collected several geological samples from the southern side of Monviso (Piedmont, NW Italy), and the alluvium of river Po and torrent Curone. Samples have been analysed with polarising microscopy, SEM-EDX and PGAA with the aim of finding possible differences and petrographic/geochemical markers between the locations. During this work it was important to use mainly non-invasive analytical methods to get comparable data with the analytical results from the often intact prehistoric stone artefacts. Accessory minerals, including Ti-, and REE-bearing minerals show the most significant dissimilarities, but there are some differences in the appearance and composition of the main rock forming minerals (Na-bearing monoclinic pyroxene, garnet) too.
