During bottle aging wine is preserved from the external atmosphere mainly thanks to the closure system. While the influence of different stoppers on the chemical composition and sensory evolution of bottled wine was largely investigated, no data are available in the literature about the effect of the capsule, combined with a natural cork stopper, on the evolution of rosé wines during bottle aging. This research aimed to identify best operating conditions to improve the shelf life of a rosé wine maintained in glass bottles closed with natural cork stoppers, and to define the role played also by both the storage position (horizontal vs vertical) and the light exposure. Based on the experimental evidences, over a period of 12 months the storage conditions that better preserved the wine quality were: storage in horizontal position in the darkness in glass bottles sealed with a natural cork stopper combined with capsule.
