More so than any other of Aeschylus’ plays, the sphere of language in the Seven obscurely suggests strong mutual tensions in the visions of the world. This article tries to explore the magical-sacral dimension of language, showing its prerogatives and limits. In the not infrequent cases in which it is positively connotated, there is, in fact, a tendency to reabsorb the action, with a sort of corrective endorsement, inside of a larger rationalistic horizon; on the other hand, that dimension is rejected in the opposite cases by reconfiguring it as an expression of primordial, individualistic, and therefore anticultural world with respect to which the κόσμος of the polis stands out by contrast, complete with balanced and functional relations.
