A complete understanding of the Open Innovation phenomenon has not been reached. In particular, the role of the scientific partners as collaborator is still debated. This because scientific partners generally own goals, culture and vision different from firms that lead to not satisfactory results. The model tested in the paper outlines that higher the intensity of the collaboration with scientific partners higher the innovation performance in terms of efficiency. Moreover, it explores the moderating role of managerial and organizational mechanisms as tool to improve absorptive capacity, showing their positive effect on performance.

Abstract

A complete understanding of the Open Innovation phenomenon has not been reached. In particular, the role of the scientific partners as collaborator is still debated. This because scientific partners generally own goals, culture and vision different from firms that lead to not satisfactory results. The model tested in the paper outlines that higher the intensity of the collaboration with scientific partners higher the innovation performance in terms of efficiency.
