In the last decade, huge efforts have been spent worldwide to reduce the uncertainties associated with SA unfolding and, particularly, to the dominant phenomena responsible for such evolution. It is of utmost importance to communicate and discuss such findings to achieve a practical enhancement of nuclear safety due to their use by industry and regulators. Several SA-related projects are also currently running worldwide in different international frameworks (HORIZON-2020, OECD, and IAEA) and also in national programs. Further, new concepts are under study worldwide that might play a role in the SA domain, e.g. Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), Accident Tolerant Fuels (ATFs), Gen-IV designs, and Fusion. The ERMSAR 2022 will be then focused on the progress made in the SA research more than 10 years after the Fukushima Daichi accidents and on the identification of the still existing challenges and knowledge development. The conference will be in memory of Martin Kissane and it will be co-organized by the SNETP/NUGENIA TA2 and, for the first time, by the CSNI/WGAMA in cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and with the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA). The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) will be the local organizer.
