This paper aims to classify rests according to their role in rhythmic configurations in music and language. Through various examples in both domains, the relationships of rests with metre, rhythm and grouping structures is analysed in depth. Finally, we investigate the interactions between linguistic and music domains concerning rests, especially in vocal compositions.
