The paper deals with a numerical work on an innovative electric thruster concept which should accelerate the charged particle flow produced by a Cluster Fragmentation Ionization process by an alternate electric field. The CFI produces charged particles of both signs and comparable mass without the use of electric power. The results reported in the paper demonstrate under various assumptions the feasibility of such a thruster concept and allow to define its main propulsive performance. The attainable specific impulse is lower and the thrust and thrust power densities higher than corresponding characteristics for an ion engine.

Abstract
The paper deals with a numerical work on an innovative electric thruster concept which should accelerate the charged particle flow produced by a Cluster Fragmentation Ionization process by an alternate electric field. The CFI produces charged particles of both signs and comparable mass without the use of electric power. The results reported in the paper demonstrate under various assumptions the feasibility of such a thruster concept and allow to define its main propulsive performance. The attainable specific impulse is lower and the thrust and thrust power densities higher than corresponding characteristics for an ion engine.File in questo prodotto:
