The paper means to briefly address the topic of gaslighting, a type of abuse not formally mentioned by the Istanbul Convention but covered by its ratio nonetheless, as it is – more often than not – exercised on women. The aim is to show that, while the fundamental basis of the protection against this abuse can be traced to the Istanbul Convention, and even though its major features can be also found in otherly named criminal offences, it still represents an issue that needs to be actually and properly handled by the law.
