To preserve the Greek φωνή (voice) he created a national library by collecting manuscripts. Bessarion displayed a philosophical and philological interest in the text of the manuscripts: this paper focuses on the marginalia he added in Marc. Gr. Z. 186 (Venezia, BNM, Marcianus Gr. Z. 186 [coll. 601]) in the folia of the Laches by Plato. For most of the dialogues, this manuscript was the basis of the luxurious Plato edition preserved in Marc. Gr.
