Sottrazioni / Subtractions

Every man-made intervention in an urban context is not without risks, concerning not only what are apparently the most concrete dangers, but also the overall aesthetic, due to insertion of constructions extraneous to the context, or the use of dissonant materials. The area of intervention had all the characteristics that would allow it to be seen as an exemplum: demolished walls, a dilapidated building, an open area invaded by parked cars. And through the variatio introduced over the years, it was possible to hypothesize various approaches, ranging from the doubling of the volumes to the recovery of existing buildings, to the reorganization of the piazza, constantly opting for “invisible” interventions and operating by Subtractions at an underground level.

Ogni intervento antropico in ambito urbano non è esente da rischi, non solo preoccupandosi di quelli apparentemente più concreti, ma anche andando a incidere sull’estetica generale, inserendo costruzioni avulse dal contesto, utilizzando materiali dissonanti. L’area di intervento aveva tutte le caratteristiche per essere considerata un exemplum: mura demolite, una casa in stato fatiscente, un invaso adibito al parcheggio delle automobili. E attraverso le variatio introdotte negli anni, si sono potuti ipotizzare i diversi atteggiamenti che vanno dal raddoppio di volumi, al recupero degli edifici esistenti, alla sistemazione della piazza, sempre preferendo interventi “invisibili” e operando per Sottrazioni a livello ipogeo.
