This paper focuses on the 'sigmatic' nominative plurals of the second declension ending in -e(i)s, -is. The analysis presented in the paper is based on the data collected in the inscriptions dating between 150 and 50 BCE included in the CLaSSES database, an epigraphic database which gathers various types of non-literary texts (inscriptions, writing tablets, letters). In order to shed light on the origin of such nominatives, several variables were examined: the geographical distribution of the inscriptions displaying such forms, the origin of those mentioned in the texts and the presence of other divergent spellings. The results of the analysis point to a possible imperfect Latin-Oscan bilingualism, showing that the examination of the variables considered here may help explain the distribution of these nominatives.
