Muzio Oddi (1569-1639) is a figure that has not yet been fully investigated, especially as far as the disciplines of architecture and military engineering are concerned. During his military campaigns in the service of Philip II of Spain, in the war against Henry IV of France, the young Urbino acquired a reputation as a skilful designer of military architecture, as witnessed by the activity in this field developed in the following decades, between Northern Italy and Lucca, the city to which he moved in 1625 to take over the direction of the great construction site of the new fortified city walls. From the large corpus of drawings, mostly unpublished, found in the royal collection of Windsor (United Kingdom), in some Italian libraries (Florence, Pesaro, Urbino) and in the manuscripts of the University of St Andrews (Scotland), some case studies are taken and compared with the aim of finally bringing to light the skills and achievements of this important personality.

Abstract
Muzio Oddi (1569-1639) is a figure that has not yet been fully investigated, especially as far as the disciplines of architecture and military engineering are concerned. During his military campaigns in the service of Philip II of Spain, in the war against Henry IV of France, the young Urbino acquired a reputation as a skilful designer of military architecture, as witnessed by the activity in this field developed in the following decades, between Northern Italy and Lucca, the city to which he moved in 1625 to take over the direction of the great construction site of the new fortified city walls. From the large corpus of drawings, mostly unpublished, found in the royal collection of Windsor (United Kingdom), in some Italian libraries (Florence, Pesaro, Urbino) and in the manuscripts of the University of St Andrews (Scotland), some case studies are taken and compared with the aim of finally bringing to light the skills and achievements of this important personality.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
