The contribution of the Urbino-born Muzio Oddi (1569-1639) to the architecture of the cathedral of Lucca, as far as the classicist definition of its modern facies is concerned, was long overdue for a proper focus. His relationship with the Tuscan city became particularly close after 1625, when he took over the direction of the work on the last fortified circle. Here, he gained a solid reputation in the field of building art, proven by the countless commissions. It is on the major adaptations carried out in San Martino that new light is shed, through the comparison of the artist's autograph drawings, some unpublished documents found in the archives and, finally, the analysis of the works actually carried out in the temple.

Abstract
The contribution of the Urbino-born Muzio Oddi (1569-1639) to the architecture of the cathedral of Lucca, as far as the classicist definition of its modern facies is concerned, was long overdue for a proper focus. His relationship with the Tuscan city became particularly close after 1625, when he took over the direction of the work on the last fortified circle. Here, he gained a solid reputation in the field of building art, proven by the countless commissions. It is on the major adaptations carried out in San Martino that new light is shed, through the comparison of the artist's autograph drawings, some unpublished documents found in the archives and, finally, the analysis of the works actually carried out in the temple.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
