This paper deals with the pavements of a domus built in Luni in the first half of the 1st century BC, overlooking the Cardo Maximus. The great variety of floors in this house (mosaic, opus sectile, brick- and marble-based cement pavements) is introduced by a peculiar mosaic representing shipsheds, placed at the end of the fauces. Inside the sheds, the mosaic represents cargo ships, whose interpretation is based on archaeological and iconographic documents, rather than the warships usually depicted in this type of context.

Abstract
This paper deals with the pavements of a domus built in Luni in the first half of the 1st century BC, overlooking the Cardo Maximus. The great variety of floors in this house (mosaic, opus sectile, brick- and marble-based cement pavements) is introduced by a peculiar mosaic representing shipsheds, placed at the end of the fauces. Inside the sheds, the mosaic represents cargo ships, whose interpretation is based on archaeological and iconographic documents, rather than the warships usually depicted in this type of context.File in questo prodotto:
