Stellar cluster ages are usually estimated by adopting as cosmic clock the luminosity of the upper end of the Main Sequence (MS) this implies an independent evaluation of the cluster distance. Age determination of stellar clusters is affected by several sources of uncertainty: the estimated chemical composition of the cluster, the physical inputs adopted in the theoretical calculations and the observational errors. In this contribution I will quantitatively discuss these points.

Abstract

Stellar cluster ages are usually estimated by adopting as cosmic clock the luminosity of the upper end of the Main Sequence (MS) this implies an independent evaluation of the cluster distance. Age determination of stellar clusters is affected by several sources of uncertainty: the estimated chemical composition of the cluster, the physical inputs adopted in the theoretical calculations and the observational errors. In this contribution I will quantitatively discuss these points.
