The paper is focused on the heritage of democratic morals within the political philosophy of J.-J. Rousseau and I. Kant. According to the former, Republicanism incorporates the very character of modern politics, i.e. the ‘democratic’ notion of sovereignty. Thus, Rousseau’s definition of Republic depicts a political regime in which the ‘law’ is ruling. Within his fundamental political writing ‘Toward Perpetual Peace’ (1795), Kant later reaffirmed such a formula, sharing the state’s form between a littera (that refers to the number of persons who entitle the power) and a spirit (that involves the ‘government’, i.e. the way in which such a power is exercised).

Abstract
The paper is focused on the heritage of democratic morals within the political philosophy of J.-J. Rousseau and I. Kant. According to the former, Republicanism incorporates the very character of modern politics, i.e. the ‘democratic’ notion of sovereignty. Thus, Rousseau’s definition of Republic depicts a political regime in which the ‘law’ is ruling. Within his fundamental political writing ‘Toward Perpetual Peace’ (1795), Kant later reaffirmed such a formula, sharing the state’s form between a littera (that refers to the number of persons who entitle the power) and a spirit (that involves the ‘government’, i.e. the way in which such a power is exercised).I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
