The aim of this work is to describe a combined system for product traceability in marble stone working processes. This study starts with the description of the working process and the information flow that usually take place in viewed companies. Then, a combined solution of different type of traceability tools are presented and based on these following techniques: (i) the use of passive RFID to trace slabs during manufacturing process and handling, and (ii) the use of laser marking method to create a barcode on end product. Particular relevance is dedicated to the second technology proposed. Detailed experiments have been done to obtain a suitable laser marking process that permits (i) to implement writing bar code system adopting portable laser instruments and/or (ii) implement solution on a automated production line to mark bar code for large series products (e.g. tiles).
