The authors of the present paper, that in the last years have analyzed both experimentally and numerically various types of loop thermosyphons, has designed and constructed a new experimental test rig. The design of the apparatus, the operating principle and preliminary experimental results are the main object of the present paper. The test rig consists of an evaporator, horizontal condenser water cooled. The main characteristic of this apparatus is the presence of three different ways of measuring the mass flow rate: a continuous mode, an integral mode and an indirect mode based on the use of a video camera. The first one is given by the mass flow rate placed on the primary line in the single phase tube after the condenser. This mass flow meter is of the Coriolis type. Moreover a secondary line is activated, in which an integral measurement of the mass flow rate is given by measuring the volume liquid collected in a fixed time inside a metering glass tank. The specific objective of the apparatus is the correlation of mass flow rate and heat input. The present apparatus permits an analysis of heat and mass transfer in dependence of the different variables: heat input (in the range 0-1000 W), operating pressure, dimensions of the pipes, operating fluid subcooling and fill ratio.

Abstract
The present apparatus permits an analysis of heat and mass transfer in dependence of the different variables: heat input (in the range 0-1000 W), operating pressure, dimensions of the pipes, operating fluid subcooling and fill ratio.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
