In today’s global economy, much of the economic activity in and between firms is based on dispersed knowledge workers (DW). Therefore, developing tools to support knowledge management (KM) in distributed environments is becoming a major challenge. This paper discusses a research project aiming at supporting managers in the implementation of Knowledge Management Systems (KMS) for dispersed workers. The paper carries out a first measure and characterization of this trend using a survey on large Italian companies in order to identify knowledge management tools adopted by the companies.

Abstract
