To organize and improve the canine blood donor program in the academia environment a cognitive survey of the characteristics of dog owners has been arranged. The survey involved both owners still active and past in the blood donor program, in the period 2008-2009. To the participants (# 32) a phone interview has been administered. The results obtained evidenced that the experience of the owners in the donation of blood by their pets was extremely positive and most owners were already involved in charity programs or associations. In conclusion, solidarity is the main stimulus to take part in canine blood donor programs by the owners. These results could be helpful to direct the information about canine blood donor program to owners already sensitize to solidarity.
