Abstract

New data are presented on the shape of the asteroids and such small planetary satellites as the Martian moons Phobos and Deimos, the Jupiter satellite Amalthea, and the Saturn satellite Mimas. The data are compared with the theory of equilibrium figures for self-gravitating masses, allowing the derivation of novel perspectives on the structure, density and strength of these bodies.
