Abstract
An essential factor for the development of a smart society, in which information technologies are deployed in order to improve the quality of our lives, is a clear and common understanding of what computer science is. First, we discuss the importance of the history of computing in improving such understanding, with a focus on the role played by museums. Then, in the light of the above argument, we illustrate the activities and collections of the Museo degli Strumenti per il Calcolo of the University of Pisa, supporting its potential as a vehicle for a national institution devoted to computing.File in questo prodotto:
