SUMMARY. A project is presented for a shaking-table for the direct testing of earthquake-resistant buildings. The table consists of a reinforced concrete platform capable of undergoing horizontal displacements only: these can be varied, separately, within very wide limits in two orthogonal directions. The motion can be modulated in amplitude and frequency, reaching its resonance by self-excitation. The main advantages of this shaking table, compared with those currently in use, are the considerably lower cost of construction and operation, and the good simulation of prototype foundation.
