The paper is focused on the harbours and ports of call located along the Pisa coasts and the Arno river system and the import-export trade in the Arno Valley ( 3rd cent. BC up the 6th AD). Documentary, epigraphic and archaeological sources have been studied in a diachronical perspective in order to delineate the commercial flows in the different geographical, economic and social contexts. Quantitative data derived from sample sites (Pisae and ager Pisanus, Vada Volaterrana, Florentia and Pistorium) are meaningful of the economic trends in the Arno Valley.
