We present a determination of the topological susceptibility in quenched QCD (pure gauge theory) through the deconfining phase transition. A clear drop is observed from the confined to the deconfined phase. The result is relevant for understanding the properties of QCD vacuum. The measurement has been made possible by an improvement of the lattice topological charge density operator.

Abstract
